1. Two-syllable words
दो syllables वाले words में सामान्य rule है कि stress पहले syllable पर आता है।

2. Three-syllable verbs
तीन syllables वाले verbs में stress सामान्यतः दूसरे syllable पर आता है। कुछ verb classes में अलग pattern मिल सकता है।

3. Adverbs
साधारण adverbs प्रायः first syllable पर stress लेते हैं। Compound adverbs में दूसरे component के first syllable पर stress आ सकता है।

4. Nouns
तीन या चार syllables वाले अधिकांश nouns में first syllable पर stress मिलता है। Second- या third-syllable stress comparatively कम मिलता है।

5. Hiatus और accent
Apostrophe-separated vowel sequence में vowel break को साफ सुनाना जरूरी है। Hiatus वाले forms में first vowel/preceding syllable का stress pronunciation को स्पष्ट करता है।
